Free CS2 skins: what actually works

Free skins exist, but they are few and cheap. Everything else that promises a giveaway is either an advertisement or a scheme to steal an account. Let's look at both, because there is much more of the second in the search.
Three legal sources of free items, how much they actually bring and why all sites with skins distribution end the same way.
Weekly rewards for playing
The main legal source. You play in official modes, gain experience over a week, and receive an item from an available set. Usually you are asked to choose one option from several.
What falls: cheap skins from old collections, cases, sometimes graffiti. For most, the value is symbolic - the cost runs to rubles and tens of rubles. Good items rarely drop out of there.
An important point: the quality and quantity of the drop depends on the account status. Non-Prime accounts receive a noticeably more limited set.
Realistic estimate: in a month of active play, you accumulate an amount that is enough for one inan expensive skin. This is not earnings, but a pleasant bonus.
Tournament rewards
During major tournaments, there are drops for watching official broadcasts with a linked Steam account. Usually these are souvenir items or graffiti.
It is important not to get confused here: you need to watch on official broadcast platforms with an account linked through the official tournament page. All “link your account to get a drop” sites outside the official scheme are phishing.
The Steam Points Shop
Steam points are awarded for purchases in Steam itself and are spent in the Points Store on profile design: avatars, frames, backgrounds, chat effects.
This has nothing to do with skins CS2 - items from the Points Store cannot be exchanged or sold. But if you need to decorate your profile for free, some of the items there are given out without points at all.
The problem with giveaway promises
The “enter Trade URL and get skin” scheme exists for the sake of the link itself: it is sold to spammers, and then you are bombarded with trade offers with an attempt at substitution.
The “login via Steam to claim your reward” scheme is phishing. The login window is drawn inside the page, looks perfect, and after entering the data, the account is gone.
The scheme “open free case, pay only for withdrawal” - the payment goes away, the withdrawal does not work.
The “giveaway from a blogger, send skin for verification” scheme is the most straightforward and, unfortunately, working.
They all have one thing in common: they promise you value that you have done nothing to deserve. Valve does not have a mechanism for giving away expensive items through third-party sites, and will not.
- No legitimate source requires you to enter Steam data on a third-party site.
- Trade URL itself is not dangerous, but if you distribute it anywhere, you will receive a flood of spam.
- If a proposal sounds too good, it is what it seems.
Starting without a budget
Play and collect weekly drops, save them for a couple of months. Sell what you have accumulated at once, when the amount becomes meaningful - on cheap items, the Steam commission eats up too much to sell them individually.
At the same time, understand how the market works. Knowing what the market pays extra for is worth more than a couple of free skins and is not taken away along with your account.
Frequently asked questions
How can I get free CS2 skins?
There are two legal ways: a weekly drop for playing time and rewards for watching official broadcasts of tournaments. Both give inexpensive items.
How many skins can drop each week?
The drop is awarded after gaining a certain amount of experience, usually with a choice of several options. The set depends on the account status.
Can skin giveaway websites be trusted?
No. They exist either for the sake of collecting Trade URLs for spam, or for the sake of phishing Steam data, or for the sake of paying for a non-existent withdrawal.
Can I sell items from the Points Shop?
No. Items for Steam points are not exchanged or sold.
Are free skins for subscribing to a channel a realistic offer?
Official drops are only available for watching tournament broadcasts via a link on the official page. Everything else is diagrams.
