How to check a skin’s float and pattern
Steam does not show the exact float nor the pattern number - only the state in the name. Everything else is pulled out from the inspect link by third-party tools. Let's look at how this is done in practice.

Finding the inspect link
In inventory: open the item, find the inspect button in the game. There will be an option to copy the link in the context menu or next to it.
On the Marketplace: each lot in the list has its own inspection button. The link is tied to a specific instance, and not to the type of item - this is important, because each lot has its own parameters.
The link looks like a long line with the word inspect and a set of numbers. It contains all the parameters of a particular instance.
Which values to check
Checking via CS2. Open the inspect link and check the item data in the game. Compare the exact wear value and pattern number, not just the condition designation or ad picture.
Browser add-ons may show options next to the item, but check the documentation for the specific function. An open license does not mean that the extension can check float, and free installation does not guarantee free access to the external API. For a separate purchase, simply inspect the item in CS2.
In-game inspection. Shows what an object actually looks like, but does not give numbers. Useful as a final check before an expensive purchase: the render and the live model are sometimes different.
- Save the inspect link before purchasing - it will come in handy if the seller starts changing lots.
- The screenshot from the seller does not confirm anything: it could have been taken from another copy.
- On cheap items, checking is usually not worth the time spent.
A practical inspection
Task: buy Field-Tested with float closer to the lower limit. You install the extension, open the item page, sort the lots and view float directly in the list. You find specimens around 0.15–0.17 and compare their prices with the rest.
Task: check if you have a rare pattern. You copy the inspect link of your item, paste it into the checker, take the number and check it with the range list for this coverage.
Task: check an expensive purchase. You open the lot in the checker, check float, pattern and each sticker with what the seller stated. Then you look at the item in the game. Only after that do you pay.
Using tools safely
The checker only needs the inspect link itself. No Steam login, password, Guard code or API key is needed to read the parameters.
Install extensions only from the official browser store and via a link from the developer’s website. Before installing, read which sites it asks for access to: an extension for the Marketplace should not require access to all sites in a row.
Permissions may change after extension updates. Periodically check your installed list and remove what you don’t use.
