How to sort your Steam inventory by price

How to sort your Steam inventory by price

Steam's standard inventory cannot sort items by market price. It groups them by game and shows the price only of the item you opened. On a hundred objects this is tolerable, on a thousand it is useless.

At a glance

What Steam itself can do, how external viewers and extensions help, and how to find everything expensive in an inventory of a thousand items in five minutes.

01

Without third-party services

Filtering by game and item type narrows the list - that's something. Then you open the item and go to its Marketplace page, where you can see the current price.

The method works when you know approximately what you are looking for: it is quite possible for them to check a dozen suspiciously valuable positions.

It is not suitable for the full picture. Steam does not give any total amount or any list “from expensive to cheap”.

02

Inventory viewers and extensions

External viewers load your public inventory via your profile link, match items with the selected price source, and build a sorted list. This is the fastest way to the answer “what is my most precious thing.”

To sort inventory by cost without additions, create a table: name, condition, quantity and price in the selected market. For identical items, multiply the price by the quantity. Rare patterns and expensive stickers should be taken out separately: the average price of the title does not take them into account.

Before you trust the numbers, check two settings: currency and price source. A service that calculates in dollars using an outdated database will show a number that has nothing to do with your market.

03

Organizing a large inventory

Open the privacy of your inventory, load it into the viewer, select the currency and price source. You will receive a list from expensive to cheap.

Next, divide the items into three groups. The top of the list is everything that is more expensive than several thousand rubles: this is checked manually. The middle is liquid items that can be handled in batches. The tail is a cheap piece of junk that is cheaper not to touch at all: the Steam commission will eat up more than you earn.

Separately mark items with exchange blocking and equipped ones - they cannot be included in mass operations.

Remember
  • Make a list of exceptions for expensive items before any mass sale.
  • Check the sorting result in Steam itself before irreversible action.
  • After assessment, the privacy of the inventory can be returned back.
04

Items to check individually

Automation takes the average price based on the name of the item and does not see individual parameters. Therefore, everything from the top of the list needs to be opened and checked: float, number pattern, stickers.

This is where most often surprises are found in both directions. skin, which the viewer valued at 3,000, may turn out to be a copy of the rare pattern for three times the price. And vice versa: a coating that is expensive in name may have float at the very top limit and cost less than average.

05

Information a viewer does not need

To work with public inventory, a link to your profile or SteamID is enough. A password, Steam Guard code, session file, cookie and API key are never needed by any legal service.

Before installing the extension, you should check the list of sites to which it requests access. An inventory extension should not require access to all sites in a row.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to sort inventory by price directly in Steam?

No. The standard interface sorts by games and types, but not by market value.

Why do different services show different amounts?

They take prices from different markets, in different currencies and update the database at different frequencies.

Do I need to open my inventory for sorting?

For an external viewer, yes. Public inventory does not provide access to the account; after evaluation, privacy can be returned.

Does sorting take stickers and float into account?

Usually not. Expensive positions at the top of the list must be checked manually via the inspect link.

Should you sell the cheapest items?

On items worth a couple of rubles, the minimum commission Steam eats up more than half the price. It is usually better to leave them alone.
