How to organize identical items in your Steam inventory

How to organize identical items in your Steam inventory

When there are three hundred cases, trading cards and cheap skins in your inventory, it is physically impossible to work with it. The grouping brings identical names into one line with quantity - but it has a catch, due to which expensive items are lost.

At a glance

Why is grouping needed when there are hundreds of items, how does it differ from merging, and why is it necessary to disclose groups before selling.

01

What grouping does

Collects items with the same full name into one trading card and displays the quantity next to it. Instead of forty lines with the same case - one line with the number forty.

This is just a display. The objects themselves remain separate units; no unification into one object occurs and cannot occur.

To group without additions, use a search by name in your inventory and write down the number of identical items in the table. Check the condition, StatTrak, souvenir version, pattern and stickers for each copy: one name does not mean the same value.

02

The main risk

The grouping goes by name. And the name does not contain either float, or pattern, or stickers.

This means that in one group “AK-47 | Redline (Field-Tested)” there may well be forty regular copies and one with float 0.151, which costs twice as much. The tool will show them in one line with one price.

Hence the rule: group for review, but before any operation, open the group and view the instances. Especially if it contains weapons, and not cases and trading cards.

Remember
  • cases, capsules and trading cards are interchangeable - their groups need not be disclosed.
  • Always open your weapon: float and stickers are different.
  • Mark equipped and blocked items separately.
03

A practical workflow

First, group by name and sort by total group cost. So you can immediately see where the money is concentrated: forty cases for 20 rubles is more important than one skin for 300 rubles.

Next, divide your inventory into three parts: interchangeable small items, marketable weapons and expensive items. The first can be sold in a pack, the second after a quick check, the third only manually.

Before a mass operation, make a test sale of one cheap item and check the result in Steam itself, and not in a third-party tool.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to combine the same skins into one item?

No. Grouping is only a way of display; the objects themselves remain separate units.

Does Steam group items itself?

Partially and not everywhere - behavior depends on the game and section. A full-fledged grouping is available in third-party viewers and extensions.

Is it safe to sell the entire group?

Only if it contains interchangeable items like cases and trading cards. A group with weapons needs to be opened and checked.

Why do items with the same name cost different things?

They have different float, pattern and stickers - none of this is reflected in the name.

What to do with duplicate trading cards?

You can sell them on the Market or trade them. Crafting a badge requires the different cards in its set, so duplicate cards do not complete the missing slots.
