CS2 skin conditions: FN, MW, FT, WW and BS

A skin’s exterior describes a range of wear values, not its age or how much someone has played with it. The labels FN, MW, FT, WW and BS stand for five familiar condition bands.
Decode the five exterior labels, compare float values within a condition and understand why identical labels can hide different-looking CS2 skins.
The five exterior bands
Factory New (FN) normally covers float values below 0.07. Minimal Wear (MW) runs from 0.07 to below 0.15; Field-Tested (FT) from 0.15 to below 0.38; Well-Worn (WW) from 0.38 to below 0.45; and Battle-Scarred (BS) from 0.45 upwards. These bands classify an individual item’s fixed wear value.
A finish may have a minimum or maximum float that excludes some conditions. Do not assume that every finish has a Factory New or Battle-Scarred version. Check the actual finish and available variants rather than treating a missing condition as proof that a seller has found a special item.
Compare the actual appearance, not just the label
Field-Tested spans a much wider numerical interval than Factory New. Two FT copies can therefore look noticeably different. The finish and pattern also affect which areas look worn; a single condition label cannot describe every scratch or colour distribution.

A cheaper exterior may look good enough for your purpose, while paying for a cleaner label may bring little visible improvement. If buying for collection or resale, remember that personal preference and resale demand are not the same thing.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Factory New skin become Field-Tested?
Not through normal gameplay. An existing skin’s float and exterior do not deteriorate with use.
Does Factory New mean the item has never had an owner?
No. It describes wear, not ownership history. A Factory New skin may have been traded many times.
